Workshop 1: Breaking the cycle: Rethinking Racism in Legal Studies
This engaging and thought-provoking workshop, will delve into the complex interplay between race, racism, and the legal system/studies. The workshop will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how legal studies and frameworks can both perpetuate and dismantle racial inequalities and complex forms of racism such as institutional, systematic or structural racism. Through interactive discussions, and group activities, participants will gain valuable insights into decolonial thought and how they can draw from it and learn practical tools to advocate for justice and equity during their studies and in their future legal careers. This workshop is an invaluable opportunity for students to engage deeply with issues of race and racism, and to discover how they can make a meaningful impact through their legal careers.
Workshop Goals:
- To develop an understanding of the historical and contemporary links between race, racism, and law
- To explore decolonial thinking and its application in legal studies and practice
- To gain practical skills for combatting racial injustice within and beyond the legal system
- To inspire a lifelong commitment to learning and acting against racial inequities

Workshop 2: Unmasking Privilege: Critical Whiteness and Racial Sensitivity Training
Discover the hidden dynamics of privilege and transform your understanding of race and racism in this workshop. Drawing from critical whiteness studies, we’ll examine how race-based identities and privileges shape societal structures and everyday interactions. Through
engaging discussions, interactive activities, and self-reflection, participants will develop a nuanced understanding of whiteness and discover practical strategies for fostering racial sensitivity and equity in their personal and professional lives. The workshop offers a unique opportunity for students to critically engage with concepts of whiteness and privilege, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact within the university structures, communities and future careers.
