The event is titled ‚AI governance in Europe and Globally‚, and takes place on Friday 4 July from 14:30 to 17:45 CEST. It is open for all to attend, either physically at the Faculty of Law (DV3 01.19) or online, and will consist of two sessions on AI policy:

Session 1: AI governance around the globe (14:30 to 16:00 CEST)

When it comes to regulating AI, much attention is given to the European Union’s AI Act. However, governments across the world are developing their own AI policies and could bring refreshing insights to the debate. The first session will therefore focus on AI governance perspectives beyond the EU, spanning Latin America, Africa, China, and the US. Our speakers include Carolina Aguerre (Universidad Católica del Uruguay), Aziz Huq (University of Chicago), Zhiyu Li (Durham University) and Jake Okechukwu Effoduh (Toronto Metropolitan University). The roundtable will be chaired by Nathalie Smuha (KU Leuven). After a brief presentation by each speaker on the state of AI governance in their respective jurisdiction, we will have a moderated discussion and a Q&A session with the audience.

Session 2: The Future of AI in Europe (16:30 to 17:45 CEST)

Now that the European Union adopted the AI Act, where is its future headed? Which direction and shape will the technology take in Europe, and what will be the role of AI regulation in the coming years? We have the honour to welcome Lucilla Sioli, the Director of the EU’s AI Office, who will give a keynote speech on the Future of AI in Europe and shed light on these questions. The speech will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

If you wish to join, we ask you to please register your attendance by Tuesday 1 July.
