Hidden Decisions: Mapping the Discretion Built Into AI Systems

An international and interdisciplinary conference examining the decision spaces embedded in AI systems. At every stage of the AI supply chain, humans make pivotal decisions that shape how AI systems behave, whose interests they serve, and what values they embody. Yet the technical processes, criteria, and trade-offs guiding these choices often remain unclear.

Bringing together leading scholars and industry experts from computer science, ethics, and law, the conference explores who occupies these decision spaces, how they are and should be used, and where law can meaningfully engage. The programme focuses on three key areas: training data and equality, system architecture and fairness, and output moderation and disinformation.

Date & Time: Thursday, October 29, 2026, 9 am – 5:30 pm

Venue: Bucerius Law School, Jungiusstraße 6, 20335 Hamburg
