The city of Hamburg’s two scholars in residence discuss some of the most pressing questions of our time: How decolonized is the world we live in – and in which ways does the empire persist? What does this mean for Africa and Europe – and where do individuals find themselves in these global structures? What are alternative dynamics – and what role do women play in this? Tsitsi Dangarembga’s recent essays “Black and Female“ (2022) and Eva Heidbreder’s academic take on Europe and beyond serve as starting points for a dialogue that invites us to change perspective, in order to challenge entrenched legacies of European thinking and to open the view for what the other sees.
