From 2 to 13 December, States will give their input on the Advisory Opinion (AO) on the obligations of States in respect of climate change from the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
This AO is highly-anticipated. It has the potential to clarify rights and duties with respect to climate change and to contribute to climate justice.
World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) is among the organizations which called for an AO, and now invites individuals and organizations around the world under the slogan #TheWorldisWatching to stream the hearings!
On the part of the Faculty of Law of the University of Hamburg, the program Climate Law in International Context (CLIC) and the Jessup Moot Court Alumni Association Hamburg e.V. invite you to join a watch party on 11 December, 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.!
A speaker from WYCJ will first provide an input on the ICJ AO: What is an AO? How did the case come about? What is so special about this climate case?
We will then watch the submissions of two states via the ICJ livestream. Afterwards, we will have a round table discussion to share initial thoughts, to place the submissions in the broader context and to answer questions from the audience!
Last but not least, there will also be non-alcoholic hot punch and seasonal snacks.
We look forward to seeing you there!
